Immigration and Customs

Immigration

Part of your planning process early on should be to make sure that you have the required documentation for entering the countries that you will be visiting during your bareboat charter. When you enter a country by private yacht rather than by common carrier, immigration officials are sometimes a little more particular than when you arrive by common carrier, so it pays to have everything right in advance.

Customs

Take care when bringing food and other supplies with you. Each area has it's own requirements and if you are not aware of them, items could be confiscated or might be subject to high rates of duty. Also check with the airline with respect to packing items in boxes (during certain times of the year, boxes are not accepted as baggage) and packing meat in dry ice (container must be vented and there will be an extra baggage charge).
