Phases of the Moon and Your Bareboat Vacation

Lots of people plan their charter to coincide with a full moon. This gives you more visibility at night for shore excursions, allows you to check visually during the night to see if the anchor is dragging or not, and can even allow night time snorkeling or shallow dives without waterproof lights. (Take care though - sharks feed at night!)

In the British Virgin Islands there's a Full Moon Party at Bomba Shack on Tortola each month. Just about anything goes at Bomba Shack, and brave souls who like to party hearty may want to consider attending.

There are reasons to charter during a new moon as well. With the absence of shore lights and city light scatter you can see the Milky Way and thousands of stars that you probably aren't able to see at home, and the view will take your breath away.
